Hey Christian - thanks for the question. I am a fan of understanding the basics before buying a manual on more advanced techniques. My go-to starting point for any coaching problem is the CBT approach (Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy). It’s well tested, and it’s easy enough to learn the principles that anyone can understand others better by having that grounding.
On my bookshelf is a book called “An Introduction to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Skills and Applications”.
It’s readable and whilst it won’t turn you into a coach on the first read, it’s about the best starting point I’ve found because it explains “why” people do what they do.
I hope this helps.
